A CONTEMPORARY SPIRITUALITY

One of the joys of being feral is the freedom to think & explore.   These thoughts have been buzzing round in my head recently. There’s nothing new about them. Others have been articulating them far better than me for centuries. But only now have they fallen into place for me. I find them to be simple but profound. They change everything.  Here they are:

To incarnate something is to embody it. Somebody/something might embody beauty or love or even God.

Christians say that Jesus incarnated God: He embodied God.

John’s Gospel fleshes this out by saying that He came from God before his birth & returned to God at his death, and while alive he incarnated God.

I have come to believe that this is true of every human being. We each come from God at our birth, return to God at our death, and our primary task as human beings is to incarnate something of God on this earth.

But is this not true of all creation? 

If God created all that is, then everything must incarnate something of God.

The world is a place where God is incarnating God-self in everything. To be aware of this is to transform the way we relate to the world. 

I guess that applies to the cosmos too.

Moreover, because God transcends death, anything that incarnates God must transcend death too, that means all of creation, including us.  God incarnate in the world is eternal.
